IIT Guwahati Admission 2025-26: Apply now for various PG and PhD courses

IIT Guwahati Admission 2025-26: The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) invites online applications for PG and PhD programmes. The IIT Guwahati admissions include M.Tech (Master of Technology), M.Des (Master of Design), M.S (R) (Master of Science Research), M.A. (Master of Arts) and Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy). The application portal for submission of the online forms is live from 21st March, 2025 and interested candidates have time up to 15th April, 2025 to apply for the same.

Joint Degree PhD Programme (JDP)
- IIT Guwahati and IIT (BHU) jointly offer PhD programme. Students work under the joint supervision of faculty from both institutes.
- The students admitted at IIT Guwahati primarily work with IIT Guwahati but they will also visit IIT (BHU) to meet the academic requirements and avail research facilities at IIT (BHU).
- A joint PhD degree will be awarded by both IIT Guwahati and IIT (BHU).
- Research proposals offered for the JDP with IIT (BHU) shall be advertised for admissions of the academic session starting from July.
- Candidates can apply through the online portal by selecting relevant research areas.
- Student selection will align with the selection process of the respective Departments/ Schools/ Centres.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational qualifications for the IIT Guwahati Admission 2025-26 are detailed below:
- PG Programme:
- For admission to the MTech/ M. Des / M.S (R) Programme, a candidate must have a Four-year Bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline with a minimum 6.0 CPI (Cumulative Performance Index) on 10-point scale (or 60% aggregate marks).
- For admission to an MA programme, a candidate must satisfy the following criteria:
- A Bachelor’s (10+2+3) degree (Major/ Honours) or equivalent from a recognized University, in any discipline, with a minimum 6.0 CPI on 10-point scale (or 60% marks) in major/honours only.
- Candidates not having Major/Honours courses, must have the concerned degree with a minimum 6.0 CPI on 10-point scale (or 60% marks).
- PhD Programme:
- 4-Year/ 5-Year Bachelor’s Degree or a Master’s Degree, with Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) 6.0 on 10-point scale (or 60% of marks), in the relevant discipline
- The CPI/ Marks criteria will be relaxed by 0.5 CPI (or 5% marks) for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates.
- The concerned academic division will determine the suitability of discipline based on the advertised research areas.
- A Degree (or equivalent) issued by a University or an Institute of National Importance, for a study of at least 4 years after Class 12 will be considered
- The CPI/ Marks criteria will be relaxed by 0.5 CPI (or 5% marks) for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates

Selection Procedure for IIT Guwahati Admission 2025-26
The selection procedure for the IIT Guwahati Admission 2025-26 are given below-
- IIT Guwahati’s selection process for M.Tech. is based on GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering).
- The selection process for M.S. (R) is based on the NET (National Eligibility Test).
- The selection for M. Des is based on CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design).
- For M. A/ M. Des / M.S (R)/ PhD programmes shall be based on the performance of candidates in the previous educational qualifications and the written test and/or interview conducted by the respective academic division.

To apply for the IIT Guwahati Admission 2025-26, follow the steps, below-
- Visit the application portal using the link given below
- Click on the “Register” button that appears in the applicant login area
- Fill in the required registration details, and get yourself registered in the portal
- Once registered, log in to the admission portal and fill in all the details as asked on the website
- Next, upload the necessary documents and images
- Click on “Programme Selection,” choose the program, and proceed to the next step where changes can be made if needed.
- Candidates applying for programs utilizing NAT, CEED, and GATE scores, are required to accurately enter their corresponding score and application number to complete the application process.
- Next, the candidates need to pay the application fee using any one of the available options
- Lastly, they need to submit the application form for the IIT Guwahati Admission 2025-26 and download it along with the payment receipt for future reference
