In this academic session 2025-26, Cotton University will admit around 1000 students to its PG courses. Here is the detailed list of courses available along with the number of seats in each programme:

50% seats for Cotton Graduates

Cotton University reserves 50% of seats in all the PG programmes for the graduates of the university itself. Hence, any graduate from Cotton University, who is passing this year or has passed in 2024 can avail the benefit of the same and get their admissions. The remaining 50% of the seats in each postgraduate programme will be open to graduate students from any recognised universities/ institutions, subject to their eligibility conditions.

However, there are no such reservations for Cotton graduates in the few programmes, and 100% of the seats in the following courses are open to all:

  • First of all, candidates need to visit the official website of Cotton University
  • Click on the highlighted link saying ‘Admissions 2025-26’

(a) For Cotton Graduates

The candidates, who have graduated from Cotton University itself in the years 2024 and 2025 can get their admissions via the following methods:

  • CGPA-Based Admission: In all subjects requiring candidates to have honours in the concerned subject, the Cotton graduate can be admitted based on their CGPA in bachelor’s degree. Such candidates should have a minimum of 5.5 CGPA for admissions (5.3 for OBC/ MOBC and 5.0 for SC/ ST candidates)
  • Entrance-Based Admission: In those subjects for which the eligibility criteria of Honours/ Major in the qualifying UG Degree does not specify the concerned subject only, admissions will be based on CPGEE 2025 scores. Here is the list of such courses:
    • MA in Ancient Indian History, Culture, and Archaeology
    • Master of Computer Applications
    • M.Sc in Environmental Biology & Wildlife Sciences
  • The standard reservation policy set by the government of Assam for OBC/ MOBC/ ST(P)/ ST(H)/ SC/ EWS/ PWD candidates will be followed while admitting Cotton graduates.

(b) For Open Category Seats

  • On the other hand, for the remaining 50% of seats in such courses and 100% of seats in programmes like Master in Library Science, LLM, M.Com, and MA in Bodo; the admission will be based on the candidate’s performance in the Cotton University Postgraduate Entrance Test, also known as CPGEE.
  • The standard reservation policy set by the government of Assam for OBC/ MOBC/ ST(P)/ ST(H)/ SC/ EWS/ PWD candidates will also be applicable for admissions in open category seats.

CPGEE 2025 & Merit List

The entrance examination for Cotton University PG Admissions 2025 will probably be conducted by the last week of June. This will be an OMR-based paper and candidates will need to solve 50 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) in 90 minutes. The candidates will be awarded 4 marks for each of their correct answers and 1 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.

The question papers for CPGEE 2025 will be based on Cotton University’s syllabus for the corresponding undergraduate course. And for programmes, which are not available in the UG curriculum of the university; question papers will be based on the standard syllabuses of reputed universities under UGC.

Cotton University and Gauhati University (GU) have both announced the postponement of all examinations scheduled for May 31, 2025, citing safety concerns for students and staff.

Cotton University postponed its PhD entrance exams, originally scheduled for the same day. In an official statement, the university mentioned that new dates will be announced soon. Similarly, Gauhati University suspended all exams slated for May 31 due to the worsening flood situation.

Schools and Colleges Closed in Kamrup and Kamrup (Metro)

In response to the emergency, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma announced via ‘X’ account that all state government employees in Kamrup and Kamrup (Metro) districts will receive a Special Casual Leave (SCL) on May 31. Additionally, schools and colleges will remain closed, and private establishments have been advised to operate with caution.

UGC grants Autonomous status to Darrang College for 2025-30; Know more https://bohikitap.in/ugc-grants-autonomous-status-to-darrang-college Wed, 28 May 2025 18:21:00 +0000 https://bohikitap.in/?p=38470 The University Grants Commission (UGC) has conferred autonomous status to Darrang College, Tezpur, for five years. This approval was granted in the Commission meeting held on 14 May 2025. The college, affiliated with Gauhati University, will now function as an autonomous institution from the academic year 2025–26 to 2029–30.

Darrang College submitted the proposal for autonomy, which was reviewed by the Standing Committee on Autonomous Colleges. Following the Committee’s recommendation, the UGC approved the status under Clause 7.4 of the UGC (Conferment of Autonomous Status Upon Colleges and Measures for Maintenance of Standards in Autonomous Colleges) Regulations, 2023.

Darrang College: Education Hub of Sonitpur

Established in 1945, Darrang College is one of the oldest and most reputed institutions of higher education in Assam. It is located in Tezpur of Sonitpur district, and has played a significant role in spreading quality education in the region. Over the decades, the college has built a strong academic foundation and earned a reputation for excellence in both curricular and extracurricular fields.

The college is named after the historic Darrang district and is often referred to as the “Nalanda of the North Bank” for its academic achievements. It has also received recognition and support under various central and state government schemes aimed at developing higher education.

As an autonomous college, Darrang College must comply with all provisions laid out in the UGC Regulations for Autonomous Colleges, 2023. The institution is expected to maintain the academic and administrative standards as per the guidelines. Failure to adhere to the regulations may lead to action under Clause 13 of the same regulations.

Educational Qualification

  • The candidates applying under Dibrugarh University B Ed CET 2025 must have at least 50% marks (in Aggregate) either in the Bachelor’s Degree and/ or in the Master’s Degree in Sciences/ Social Sciences/ Humanities/ Commerce.
  • OR Bachelor of Engineering/ Bachelor of Technology of Dibrugarh University or from any other recognized University with Science and Mathematics securing at least 55% marks or any other qualification equivalent thereto are eligible for admission.
  • Candidates must clear the B.Ed. CET 2025 conducted by Dibrugarh University for the academic season 2025-2026.

Age Reservation

  • The Statutory Reservation Policy of the Government of Assam will be strictly followed.
  • A 5% relaxation in qualifying marks (or equivalent Grade Point) will be granted to candidates who fall under any one of the following categories:
    • belonging to the SC/ ST/ OBC/ MOBC/ PWD categories
    • Candidates with a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in a school recognized up to at least Class 10 by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam.

Note: A candidate can claim this relaxation under only one category.

  • First of all, candidates need to visit the Online Portal (scroll down for the link).
  • Then, candidates must register on the portal by clicking the “Register” button and providing their name, mobile number, and password. The mobile number will be verified through an OTP.

  • Upon logging in, the candidate should click on the “Apply” button next to the “Registration” button

Selection Procedure
