All about Jagadesh Kumar: the new Chairman
Jagadesh Kumar was one of the professors of IIT Delhi in the Department of Electrical Engineering before joining JNU as the Vice-chancellor. He took over the position of VC in January 2016 from Sudhir Kumar Sopory.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) became a statutory Organization of the Government of India by an Act of Parliament in 1956. It was built for the coordination, judgment, and supervision of the norms of teaching, examination, and research in university education.
Jagadesh Kumar was given the responsibility of being the Organising Chairman of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2012 where he had the responsibility of overseeing the test centers across India. Even though he has been carrying out his responsibilities he got into quite some controversies after being appointed as JNU’s Vice-Chancellor.
