The Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat, has issued Advertisement No. 4/2026 inviting applications from Indian citizens for the posts of Assistant Professor and equivalent. The posts are under the Faculty of Agriculture and the Faculty of Community Science.
Under the AAU Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026, a total of 60 posts will be filled across 25 disciplines. Detailed information, including the application link, will be made available on the university website from 4.00 PM on 5th October 2026, and the last date to apply is 4th November 2026.

Eligibility Criteria
Age Limit
- The upper age limit for AAU Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026 is 38 years as on the last date of submission of the application.
- Permanent in-service candidates may get relaxation in the upper age limit equal to the number of full years of service rendered in AAU/ ICAR/ CSIR/ DST/ SAUs and other Govt. Institutions, up to a maximum of 5 years, supported by relevant documents.
Age relaxation for reserved categories will be as per the norms of the Government of Assam. Candidates should check the official notification for complete details.
Educational Qualification
Applicants must have the following qualifications, discipline-wise.
- All disciplines other than those listed separately below:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture/ Horticulture/ Community Science/ Veterinary Science, as relevant to the post.
- For Sericulture, a Bachelor’s degree in either Sericulture or Agriculture is required.
- A Master’s degree in the discipline relevant to the post is also required.
- Agro-meteorology: Bachelor’s degree in Science with Physics or Meteorology as the major subject, or Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture/ Veterinary Science/ Community Science/ Fisheries/ Forestry. Master’s degree in Meteorology/ Agricultural Meteorology.
- Agril. Business Management: Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture/ Veterinary Science/ Community Science/ Fisheries/ Forestry/ Agricultural Engineering. Master’s degree in Business Administration, or MBA/ PGDM from reputed institutions like IIM, along with two years of working experience in a reputed organisation.
- Agril. Statistics: Bachelor’s degree in Science with Statistics as the major subject, or Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture/ Veterinary Science/ Community Science/ Fisheries/ Forestry. Master’s degree in Statistics/ Agricultural Statistics.
- Computer Science: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Application/ Information Technology/ Engineering/ Science with Computer Science as the major subject. Master’s degree in Computer Application/ Information Technology/ Information & Communication Technology/ Computer Engineering/ Electronics & Communication Engineering/ Computer Science.
- Food Science & Technology: Bachelor’s degree in Science or an equivalent degree relevant to the post. Master’s degree in Food Technology/ Food Science & Technology/ Food Engineering/ Dairy Technology/ Post Harvest Technology/ Agricultural Process Engineering or equivalent disciplines.
In every discipline, the Master’s degree must be from an Indian or foreign university, with a minimum of 55% marks or a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (MCGPA) of 3.00 on a 4-point scale or 7.00 on a 10-point scale.
For universities using other scales, the MCGPA will be worked out by the formula 3+0.667 (Scale Point – 4). On this basis, the MCGPAs for 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10-point scales are 3.00, 3.67, 4.33, 5.00, 5.67, 6.34 and 7.00, respectively.
NET Requirement
- Candidates must have qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET). NET is not required for disciplines in which it is not conducted.
- NET is waived for candidates with a PhD degree, provided the degree was obtained under the course credit system in accordance with the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of PhD Degree, 2009) Regulation.
- Such candidates must also have at least two full-length publications with a NAAS rating of not less than 5 on the last date of submission of the application.
- The NET requirement is not mandatory for the discipline of Agricultural Engineering.
Minimum API Score
Candidates must secure a minimum score of 44 out of 80 for General and 40 out of 80 for SC/ST in the Academic Performance Indicator (API) based Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS). This score is prescribed for direct recruitment in AAU for candidates to be called for an interview.
Nationality
Only Indian citizens can apply for the AAU Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026. Candidates who are permanent residents of Assam should apply for the posts as per the university service rule/ regulation.
Selection Process
Candidates who secure the minimum API score under the PBAS will be called for an interview. The percentage of disability for PWD candidates shall be as per Government norms.
