Central Government has initiated 'Shreshta Scholarship' for classes 9 and 11 students from Schedule Caste. Last date to apply is on 12th of April 2022.

Shreshta Scholarship: Centre has started accepting fresh applications for the scholarships of Scheme for Residential Education for High Schools in Target Areas (SHRESHTA) for Scheduled Castes (SC) students of classes 9 and 11. The new application process for the scholarships has been issued for the development of the poor students of the country. Each year thousands of students are deprived of getting facilities like education in our country. So to facilitate students and minimise hindrance in obtaining education, Central Government has come up with the scheme.

  • Click on ‘Registration for Shreshta 2022’ under Candidate Activity
  • Click on New Registration
  • Fill all your credentials

Who is eligible for the Shreshta Scholarship?

The eligibility criteria for schools that can apply for the Shreshta Scholarship are as mentioned below.

  • The school should be a residential school which has affiliation to CBSE Board.
  • The school should have classes upto class twelve.
  • The school should be in regular function operating for at least last five years.
  • The school should have class ten and class twelve board exam appeared students and the passed percentage should exceed 75% in percentage in past five years.

In part of the students applying for the Shreshta Scholarship, the parent’s earnings should not cross the limit of 2.5 lakhs on an annual basis.

The application form fill-up procedure shall come to an end on the 14th of April 2022. Thereby, candidates who are interested in applying for the Shreshta Scholarship programme are requested to complete the application process before 14th April or earlier. The national level entrance examination shall be conducted on the 7th of May 2022 across all states and union territories.

Provisions provided by the Shreshta Scholarship

The Central Government has announced to provide approximately 3,000 eligible candidates who belong to the scheduled caste community seats in class nine and eleven and financial contribution. The annual income of the student must be below 2.5 Lakhs per annum. In order to select the eligible candidates for admissions, there will be an entrance examination conducted. The entrance test called National Entrance Scholarship Test for Shreshta (NESTS) will be held for the selection of the students.

The CBSE or Central Board of Secondary Education has mentioned that scholarship shall contain school fees and hostel fees of the eligible candidates. This would also include tuition charges, mess charges, and other essential dues.

What is Shreshta Scholarship?

The Central Government of India has launched a noble initiative, especially for the benefit of the students from the SC community. The initiative as named ‘Shreshta’ which was officially started on the 6th of December in the year 2021. The scheme shall be further implemented by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

The ‘Shreshta’ scholarship was for the very first time stated in an ongoing Rajya Sabha question hour by the Central Government for the sake of uplifting the education status of the Scheduled Caste students. This scholarship scheme is for students studying in classes nine and eleven in the session 2022-2023. The Shreshta Scholarship programme aims to provide financial aid to eligible candidates who are inspired enough to dream of a better tomorrow. The scheme wills benefit students in planting their dreams by providing quality residential education.
