Gauhati University has opened the application portal to accept forms for admission into postgraduate courses at the university and its affiliated colleges. The application portal for Gauhati University PG Admissions 2025 is open from the 23rd of June, and candidates will have time up to the 1st of July to apply for the same.
This year, Gauhati University will conduct the postgraduate entrance test on 10th, 11th and 12th of July. And any student can opt for appearing in the entrance examination for a maximum of three subjects (one traditional and two interdisciplinary).

Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates must possess a graduate degree in a relevant field to be eligible to appear in GUPGET-2025.
- Minimum Credits: For many traditional programmes and several interdisciplinary programmes, candidates are generally required to have a minimum of 24 Credits in the specific subject of their chosen postgraduate programme or a related discipline, either with Major/ Honours or through a Regular Course. For example, M.A. in Anthropology requires a graduate degree with a minimum of 24 Credits in Anthropology.
- Minimum Marks/ CGPA: Several programmes, particularly within the interdisciplinary category, may also require candidates to secure a minimum percentage of marks or a specific CGPA in their qualifying examination. These percentages can vary by programme.
- Candidates who have appeared or are appearing in their 6th Semester B.A./ B.Sc./ B.Com/ B.Voc Examinations in 2025 are eligible to apply for Gauhati University PG Admissions 202 and get provisional admission if selected. However, such candidates must submit their Final Marksheet within 7 days of their result declaration; failure to do so will result in the withdrawal of their seat.
- Candidates who have a backlog in earlier semester(s) are also eligible, but they will need to submit their Final Marksheet within 7 days of their result declaration.
- For all courses, certain specific eligibility criteria have been fixed by the concerned departments. So, candidates are requested to check the eligibility criteria for the courses beforehand in the Admission notification.
Selection Procedure: GUPGET 2025
The merit list for Gauhati University PG Admissions 2025 will be fully based on the candidates’ performance in the entrance examination, i.e. GUPGET 2025. This year, GUPGET will be conducted from the 10th, 11th and 12th of July, 2025. The examination will have 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQ), and candidates will get 2 hours of time to complete it. For each correct answer, 1 mark will be awarded while for each wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted.
Reservations
Guwahati University also offers a 50% reservation of seats in traditional subjects for GU students and the remaining 50% of seats are open for all students including students from GU. Also, note that there is no such reservation in interdisciplinary subjects and seats are open to all students.
Along with this, Gauhati University will completely follow the reservation structure laid out by the government for candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC/ EWS/ PwD categories. And eligible students can also apply for Gauhati University PG Admissions 2025 under various other quotas for co-curricular activities/ NSS/ NCC/ Fringe Village category/ Ex-Servicemen category/ GU Employee category/ Ex-GU employee category, according to their matching criteria under different branches.

- Once done, log in and enter the details as asked in the admission portal – which will include your personal information, address info, academic details, etc.

- Then choose the courses, you wish to apply for and proceed
