IIT Delhi is all set to launch 1st International Campus in Abu Dhabi; Know more

A new campus of IIT Delhi is being planned to set up in Abu Dhabi. The MoU is signed by the leaders of the two countries.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has joined hands with Abu Dhabi to set up the first new campus in UAE. The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of UAE, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of the IIT Delhi campus. The Institute will be offering both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for the students, starting from the academic session of 2024.

The students will receive the degrees which will be conferred by the IIT Delhi. And all the academic programmes, inputs and pedagogy will be primarily taken care of by the IIT Delhi.

Programmes to be offered

The IIT Delhi campus in Abu Dhabi will composite both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in areas namely:

  • Computer Science and Engineering
  • Energy and Sustainability
  • Healthcare
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Mathematics and Computing
  • Disciplines of Engineering, Sciences and Humanities

As per reports, the IIT Delhi campus in Abu Dhabi will begin with the Master’s programmes in the month of January 2024. And then will start the Bachelor-level programmes in September 2024.

Opinions on IIT Delhi’s Campus in Abu Dhabi

Speaking about the same, the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan tweeted, “MoU for the establishment of @iitdelhi campus in Abu Dhabi in the presence of Hon. PM @narendramodiji unfolds a new chapter in the internationalisation of India’s education.”

He further added, “An exemplar of #NewIndia’s innovation and expertise, the IIT Delhi campus in UAE will be an edifice of 🇮🇳🇦🇪 friendship. It will set a brand new template for leveraging the power of knowledge for both mutual prosperity and global good as envisioned in NEP.”

The Director of IIT Delhi, Professor Rangan Banerjee conveyed, “Our new Abu Dhabi campus is a challenge and opportunity for us to ensure that our education and research make a global impact.”

Establishment of IIT Madras campus in Zanzibar

The IIT Delhi’s Abu Dhabi campus will be the second IIT campus to be launched internationally. Before IIT Delhi signed up an MoU for the establishment of this campus in UAE, another MoU was signed for setting up an IIT Madras campus in Zanzibar.

The IIT Madras campus in Zanzibar was also on news, as it is the first IIT campus to be directed by a woman, Preeti Aghalayam. The Director-in-Charge of IIT Madras, Preeti Aghalayam expressed, “I am an alumnus of IIT Madras and doing something of this magnitude for the institute and for the country is such a big honour. Every time we visited over here as the IIT Madras contingent, we noticed that the representation of women on their side is quite significant. So, it was important that we do this mindfully.”
