The eligibility criteria for the students selected under IIT Guwahati Admissions 2026 for both the programs is given below:
General Eligibility
PhD Eligibility
For admission to the PhD Program under IIT Guwahati Admissions 2026 a candidate must have
- 4-Year/ 5-Year Bachelor’s Degree or a Master’s Degree, with CPI 6.0 on 10-point scale (or 60% of marks), in the relevant discipline.
- For admission into PhD programme under regular category, the candidates must have one of the following qualifications for availing respective fellowships/ assistantships:
- Candidates seeking admission to the PhD programme must satisfy at least one of the following criteria: a valid GATE or CEED score; or a BTech, BDes, MSc, MA, MTech, MDes, or MS degree obtained through an on-campus regular programme from an IIT in the relevant discipline with a minimum CPI of 8.0 on a 10-point scale. Candidates from Arts backgrounds must have qualified UGC-CSIR-NET (Assistant Professorship). Applicants holding an MTech, MDes, MS (Research), or equivalent degree must either have qualified GATE/CEED at any time (validity not mandatory) or qualify in the written examination conducted by IIT Guwahati.
- For fellowship support, candidates may be funded through external agencies such as NET-JRF of CSIR/UGC/DST/DBT/ICMR/ICAR, NBHM Doctoral Scholarship, DAE Graduate Fellowship Scheme (DGFS), and UGC Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship (RGNF). Candidates qualified for the INSPIRE Fellowship will initially be admitted under the self-financed category and will be converted to the regular category from the effective date of fellowship upon award.
- The candidates qualified for INSPIRE Fellowship shall be admitted in self-financed category only. As and when the fellowship is awarded, they will be converted to the regular category from the “Effective Date” of fellowship.
MTech/ MDes/ MS(R)/ MA Eligibility
- For admission into MTech/ MDes/ MS(R) programmes under regular category of IIT Guwahati Admissions 2026, the candidates must have the respective qualifications for availing the Institute Assistantship:
- Valid GATE score for MTech/MS(R) programmes.
- Valid CEED score for MDes programme.
- Valid CEED score for Design background candidates for MTech in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence.
- NET-JRF in the relevant discipline for MS(R) in Energy Science and Engineering.
