JNV Class 9 Admissions 2027: Registration Open Till 30th September, Selection Test On 10th April

JNV Class 9 Admissions 2027: Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Education, Department of School Education and Literacy, has released the prospectus cum notification for JNV Class 9 admissions 2027. The Lateral Entry Selection Test is conducted to fill vacant seats likely to be available in Class IX of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) for the academic session 2027-28.

Eligible candidates currently studying in Class VIII during the 2026-27 session can apply online at navodaya.gov.in. The last date to submit the application is 30th September 2026, and the selection test will be held on 10th April 2027.

Vacancy Details

• Admission through JNV Class 9 admissions 2027 will be made only against vacant seats actually available in the JNV of the concerned district, and the number of seats may increase or decrease before the final selection. Vacancies are reserved for Open and Rural quotas, with sub-categories for UR, OBC, SC, ST and Divyang candidates, and are notified district-wise for JNVs functioning across 27 States and 8 Union Territories (except Tamil Nadu).
• Since the tentative vacancy count differs for every district and runs into a large state-wise and category-wise list, candidates are advised to check the seat position for their own district in the official notification available on navodaya.gov.in before applying. NVS has also listed a set of JNVs, spread across states such as Madhya Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Telangana, Delhi, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur and Mizoram, where the Class IX test will not be conducted in 2027 due to non-existence of Class IX or shortage of accommodation.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria of the students applying under JNV Class 9 Admissions 2027 are given as follows:

Residence and School Requirement

• The candidate must be a bonafide resident of the district in which admission is sought.
• The candidate must be studying Class VIII during the 2026-27 academic session in a Government or Government-recognised school located in the same district where the JNV is functioning.
• The district of residence and the district where the candidate studied Class VIII must be the same.

Age Limit

• The candidate’s date of birth must fall between 1st May 2012 and 31st July 2014 (both days inclusive). This age criterion applies uniformly to all categories, including SC/ ST/ OBC/ Divyang candidates.
• NVS reserves the right to refer a candidate to a Medical Board to confirm age in case of doubt, and the Board’s decision will be final and binding.

Nationality

• Only Indian nationals studying Class VIII in India, in the district concerned, are eligible to apply.

Who Is Not Eligible

• Candidates who have already passed Class VIII in a previous academic session.
• Candidates whose date of birth does not fall within the prescribed range.
• Candidates whose district of Class VIII study and district of residence are different.
• Candidates studying in a school not recognised by the Government of the district where admission is sought.
• Candidates who have already appeared for the Lateral Entry Selection Test in a previous academic session.

Selection Process

• Admission to JNV Class 9 admissions 2027 will be made purely on the basis of the Selection Test, which will be conducted by an external agency as per NVS policy.
• Vacant seats in the SC/ ST/ OBC/ Divyang categories under JNV Class 9 Admissions 2027 are reserved for candidates belonging to those categories, and OBC reservation will be implemented as per the central OBC list applicable at the time.
• The merit list will be prepared using marks scored in three subjects: Mathematics, General Science, and whichever of the two languages (English or Hindi) the candidate has scored higher in.
• A candidate must also score the minimum qualifying marks prescribed by NVS in all four subjects.

In case candidates tie on marks, the following order applies:

• A female candidate is preferred over a male candidate.
• If the tie persists, the candidate scoring higher marks out of 30 in two subjects is preferred.
• If still tied, the candidate scoring higher marks out of all four subjects (100 marks) is preferred.
• If the tie is not resolved even then, the candidate with the lower age is preferred.

Note:

• Provisional selection does not by itself confer a right to JNV Class 9 Admissions 2027.
• Selected candidates must produce all original certificates for verification, and admission is confirmed only after this verification is complete.

Exam Pattern

• The Selection Test for JNV Class 9 Admissions 2027 will be based on the Class VIII syllabus and will be objective-type, conducted on OMR sheets, with a duration of 2½ hours and no break.
• There is no negative marking, and each correct answer carries 1 mark.
• Divyang candidates are given 50 minutes of additional time upon production of the relevant certificate.

Note:

• The medium of the JNV Class 9 Admissions 2027 is English/ Hindi, and this cannot be changed once the application form is submitted.
• Candidates must use only a blue or black ballpoint pen on the OMR sheet; use of pencil is strictly prohibited, and no correction fluid or overwriting is allowed.

Documents Required

For registration, the following documents in soft (JPG, 10 to 100 kb) form are needed:

• Photograph of the candidate
• Signature of the candidate
• Signature of the parent
• Basic details such as State, District (residence and study), Aadhaar number, Class VIII study details, and APAAR ID/ PEN

At the time of admission, provisionally selected candidates must submit:

• Birth certificate issued by a competent Government authority
• Proofs of eligibility as per NVS norms
• Rural area certificate from the District Administration, if applying under the rural quota
• Residence certificate for the district where the JNV is located
• Copy of the candidate’s Aadhaar card
• Divyang certificate, if applicable
• OBC certificate as per the central list, if applicable

Steps to Apply

• Visit the application portal by clicking on the link given below in the “Important Links” section.
• Go through the notification cum prospectus and confirm that all eligibility conditions are met before starting the form.
• Fill in the candidate’s basic details, including State, District of residence and study, Aadhaar number, and APAAR ID/ PEN.
• Upload the photograph along with the signatures of both the candidate and the parent in the prescribed JPG format.
• Submit the completed application before the last date. A correction window for select fields will open for two days after the last date, after which no changes are allowed.
• Candidates without access to a device can visit the help desk available at any JNV, where assistance to submit the application for JNV Class 9 Admissions 2027 is provided free of cost.
