Mamata Banerjee, Amit Shah qualifies West Bengal TET exam

High-profile political names in the West Bengal TET exam 2014 results, lawyers demand verification. WBBPE president comes with clarification.

West Bengal TET exam: The recently released list of qualifying candidates for the West Bengal TET exam 2014 by the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) has brought a political uproar in the state. It was noticed that the list of qualifying candidates contains names that were the same as those in the limelight among the current active politicians in the state of Bengal be it from the ruling or opposition party along with the high-profile name from the center appeared on the merit list of the Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) of qualified candidates.

The list contains leaders’ names such as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee, Suvendu Adhikari, and Sukanta Majumder were found in a fresh TET merit list. The list also included Amit Shah’s name.

The West Bengal TET exam merit list published by the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) website on 11th November 2022, contains a total of 1,832 pages with names of 11.25 lakh candidates who qualified for the written examination and are now eligible for the next rounds of tests to be recruited as teachers in the state government-run schools.

The West Bengal TET exam merit list containing names of active political personalities has come up with an angle of suspicion of some corruption as already the case of teacher recruitment is under investigation. The West Bengal TET exam 2014 requirement process has undergone several protests, and investigations as allegations were raised that requirements were made in lieu of money.

The reason to be suspicious is also because of the recent incidences where former Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee was arrested in July 2022, in relation to his alleged involvement in the teacher recruitment scam

The matter has gone to the extent that some lawyers of Calcutta HC raised the issue of unusual names before Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of Calcutta High Court and have asked the Court to verify whether these names pertain to candidates who appeared in the West Bengal TET exam or not.

Some Responses on West Bengal TET exam 2014 results

The president of WBBPE Goutam Paul on a media interaction said that “These are namesakes and we have also provided the names of the candidate’s father and their contact numbers. Attempts being made by political parties to malign the state,”

But, Urban Development and Municipal Affairs minister Firhad Hakim claimed it was a conspiracy against the state. “A few people are trying to mislead the people of the state and malign us. The education department should find out the culprits who are trying to malign the state and act against them if the names are fake,” he told reporters on Monday.

Also, the West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar shared the list on Twitter “This is the level of education and assessment in West Bengal. Corruption is high and education and assessment are poor. Sad state of affairs. When did @MamataOfficial stop playing with life of candidates?”

The issue of the West Bengal TET exam 2014 results has now taken a turn to become an event of political opportunity to suppress the other or to on other side make excuses for their negligence. But what was important went in vain is the voices of the suffering candidates who were protesting for the candidates who called themselves to be TET 2014 qualifiers, lay claim to receiving job appointment letters in schools. But now again the TET 2014 qualified candidates stated that they were asked to appear for the TET examination once again, which they refused.
