Latest update for medical students, MBBS to be taught in Hindi in Madhya Pradesh

The Madhya Pradesh government has added an option for medical students in which the government has decided that MBBS to be taught in Hindi along with English from the next session onwards in Madhya Pradesh.

The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh in an official statement stated that the MBBS to be taught in Hindi along with English from the successive academic year in the Medical Colleges of the state. The English-to-Hindi language translation in the course would not affect the earlier system and is said to be a modified version of the same. Correspondingly, the classroom, students, and lecturers would remain the same.

The new changes to the language of education are specially meant for students who face problems in coping with English textbooks. Both English and Hindi textbooks will be made available for the students. In the case of the Hindi textbooks, the technical words shall remain in English.

Chief Minister’s words on MBBS to be taught in Hindi

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, “This is a step in putting into practice the idea that one can move ahead in life through education in Hindi medium too. It’s the resolve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the medium of education should be in one’s mother tongue.”

What did Medical Education Minister say?

On this, Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang said, “Madhya Pradesh will be the first state in the country to start medical education in which MBBS to be taught in Hindi also. The pilot project of the MBBS course in Hindi will start at Gandhi Medical College. From the current session itself, anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry will be taught in Hindi in the first year of MBBS in all 13 government medical colleges of Madhya Pradesh. At the same time, it will be implemented in MBBS second year also in the next session.”

Also, recently chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath while addressing a meeting in the Moradabad district announced that the textbooks of Engineering and Medical Studies will be available in Hindi as well in Uttar Pradesh from the next session onwards and added that certain textbooks are already translated into Hindi.

Earlier this week, the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah also launched a few books on the MBBS curriculum in Hindi medium at Madhya Pradesh.

Students’ comments on the change

When a few students were asked about their views on the step of MBBS to be taught in Hindi also. Three of them in their MBBS first year, namely, Budhram Meena, Sahiba Khatoon, and Rachna Yadav spoke up that the Hindi textbooks will surely help the students learn and explain the answers.

Another student Antara Lahiri, in her final year when asked about her views on MBBS to be taught in Hindi, said, “It’s a good initiative. It’s a tedious process, but will certainly help students. However, we will have to see how they will translate books written by foreign authors. Overall it’s a good idea as we have seen many of our batch mates struggle because of English”.
