The NIC Scientist and Technician Recruitment 2026 is being conducted on a direct recruitment basis for the post of Scientific/ Technical Assistant-A, a Group-B S&T (non-Gazetted) post. The merit list for this recruitment will be prepared purely on the basis of a valid Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score of 2024, 2025 or 2026. NIC Scientist and Technician Recruitment 2026: Pay Scale

The post of Scientific/ Technical Assistant-A carries a pay of Level 6 (Rs. 35,400/- to Rs. 1,12,400/-) under the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC).

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates applying for the NIC Scientist and Technician Recruitment 2026 must fulfil the age limit, educational qualification and GATE score criteria described below. All eligibility conditions, including educational qualification and age, must be met as on the closing date, that is, 30th September 2026.

Age Limit

NIC Scientist and Technician Recruitment 2026: Selection Process

• Selection for the NIC Scientific/ Technical Assistant-A post will be made purely on the basis of the valid GATE score.
• A category-wise merit list will be prepared for each discipline based on the GATE score, with equal weightage given to GATE 2024, GATE 2025 and GATE 2026 scores.
• Candidates must submit their best GATE score from any one of the eligible years in the discipline applied for.
• In case of a tie in GATE score between candidates, the older year’s GATE score will be ranked higher; if the score and year are the same, the older candidate will be ranked higher; and if a tie still persists, the candidate with the higher percentage or CGPA in the essential qualification will be ranked higher.
• Shortlisted candidates will be called for document verification as per vacancy requirements before a provisional appointment is offered.
• Candidates who fail to appear for document verification with original documents will not be eligible for provisional appointment.
