In an official notification, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has published the details of the upcoming Biotechnology Eligibility Test (BET) 2025. It’s conducted to award the DBT-Junior Research Fellowship (DBT-JRF) for those pursuing research in various fields related to biology. Eligibility Criteria for BET 2025
Educational Qualification
- The candidate pursuing under graduation with discipline B.E./ B.Tech./ M.B.B.S or Post Graduation with M.Sc./ M.Tech./ M.VSc./M. Pharm./ Integrated M.Sc./ M.Tech. in any discipline of Biotechnology or Life Sciences, such as Biomedical, Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Botany, Chemistry, Computational Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Zoology or any other allied area of Biology/ Life Sciences can apply for BET 2025.
- The candidate has passed any M.Sc./ M.Tech./ M.VSc./ M.Sc. (Agri) programs supported under the DBT Post Graduate Teaching Programme shall be eligible to apply. Candidates who are yet to appear in the final semester examination or are awaiting the result of the final semester shall also be eligible to apply.
- Candidates must have a minimum of 60% marks for General/ EWS/ OBC and 55% for SC/ ST/ Differently Abled candidates.
- Candidates in the final year of their qualifying degree can apply for BET. This is under the “result awaited” (RA) category. Candidates must submit an Undertaking/Attestation Form. The Head of the Institute must certify and stamp the form. The Institute’s address and name must be on the form. Candidates get the form from APPENDIX-III. Failure to submit the form will result in application rejection.
Age Limit
- The candidate must be at least 28 years of age as of 28/03/2025 for General/ EWS.
- Age Relaxation-
- SC/ ST/ Differently Abled/ Female: 5 years
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years
Nationality
The candidate must be a bona fide citizen and resident of India.
Exam Pattern for BET 2025
- The exam will be conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.
- The exam consists of sections—Section A and Section B—and is worth 300 marks.
- There will be 200 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), and candidates must attempt 100.
- The total exam duration is three hours, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, during which candidates must answer Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs).

Exam Syllabus for Section A: Aptitude & General Biotechnology
- Aptitude
The Part A aptitude section tests the candidate’s comprehension, reasoning, and quantitative abilities. Questions may include:
- Comprehension-based questions: A paragraph is provided, followed by questions based on it.
- Non-verbal reasoning: Identifying patterns or the odd ones out in abstract pictures.
- Quantitative ability: Questions involving large numbers and simple calculations.
2. General Biotechnology
This section covers fundamental topics in biotechnology, including:
- Biomolecular structure and function
- Methods in Biotechnology
- Organization of structure and functions of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells
- Cellular processes
- Recombinant DNA Technology
- Genetics, Phylogeny, & Evolution

Part B of the BET 2025 exam contains Specialized Branches of Biotechnology, allowing candidates to choose 50 questions out of 150. The topics include:

How to apply for BET 2025?
- First of all, candidates need to visit the official website by clicking on the link given below.
- Then click on “BET 2025 Online Application”.
- Next, click on the button given to register new candidates.
- Read all the instructions and review the information bulletin to ensure you meet the eligibility conditions.
- Fill in the required registration details, and register yourself in the portal.
- Once registered, log in to the admission portal and fill in all the details as asked on the website.
- Next, upload the necessary documents and images and pay the applicable fee.
- Lastly, submit the application form for BET 2025 and download a copy of the form and payment receipts for future reference.
- Also, note the user ID and password, as it will be required for subsequent logins.
