SLET 2026: The State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) Commission, Assam (N.E. Region) has announced the schedule for the State Eligibility Test (SET) 2026. The exam is set to take place on 15th March next year, across various university centers in the Northeastern states. This examination serves as a crucial step for aspiring Assistant Professors in the region, ensuring a standardized benchmark for higher education faculty.
SLET 2026: About the exam
The SLET examination is conducted by the State Level Eligibility Test (SLET), North-east region to determine the eligibility of candidates for Assistant Professor positions in universities and colleges of North-east India. Instituted in 1988, the SLET examination ensures a standardized benchmark for higher education faculty, guaranteeing that only those with the requisite academic qualifications and research aptitude are considered for these coveted roles.
Eligibility criteria
- General/ Unreserved/ General-EWS candidates who have secured at least 55% marks in a Master’s Degree or equivalent examination. However, the SC, ST, PWD Category, and OBC belonging to the non-creamy layer who have secured at least 50% marks in a Master’s degree or equivalent are eligible to appear in the SLET 2026 examination.
- Candidates who have appeared or will be appearing at the final qualifying Master’s degree (final year) examination and the result is still awaited or candidates whose qualifying examination has been delayed may also apply for SLET.
- However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for the award of a pass certificate only after they have passed the Master’s degree examination or equivalent examination with at least 55% marks in the case of General/ Unreserved/ General-EWS category and at least 50% marks in case of OBC (Non-creamy layer), SC/ ST/ PWD/ Third Gender category candidates.
- Such candidates must obtain a Master’s Degree within 2 years from the date of the concerned SLET 2026 result with a required percent of marks failing which they shall be treated as disqualified.
- Candidates are eligible to appear in the subject of their post-graduation only.
- There is no upper age limit for eligibility for applying for this Test.
SLET 2026: Exam Pattern
The SLET examination will consist two papers i.e., Paper I and Paper II.
- Paper – I shall be of general subject, intended to assess the teaching/ research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate.
- Paper – II shall consist of objective-type questions based on the specialised subject the candidate has applied.
