UPSC Engineer Service Examination 2027: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released Examination Notice No. 02/2027-ENGG, notifying the Engineering Services Examination, 2027 on behalf of the Ministry of Communications, Department of Telecommunications. The UPSC Engineer Service Examination 2027 will fill approximately 480 vacancies, including 19 vacancies reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), across four engineering categories: Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering.

Vacancy Details
The UPSC Engineer Service Examination 2027 notification covers recruitment to Services/Posts under four broad categories. A candidate may apply for admission under only one of these categories.

The total number of vacancies is expected to be approximately 480, and this number is liable to alteration. Reservation will be made for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Economically Weaker Section and Persons with Benchmark Disability category as fixed by the Government of India.
Pay Scale
The candidate selected under UPSC Engineer Services Examination 2027 will recieve a Basic Pay of ₹56,100 per month

Eligibility Criteria
Nationality
- A candidate must be a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal, or a subject of Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or specified East African countries or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Age Limit
- A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on 1st January 2027, that is, born not earlier than 2nd January 1997 and not later than 1st January 2006.
- The upper age limit is relaxable up to 35 years for eligible Government servants holding posts in specified departments such as Central Public Works Department, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Department of Telecommunications, Border Roads Organisation, Indian Navy, Military Engineer Services, Central Water Commission, Central Electricity Authority, Geological Survey of India and Ministry of Railways, among others.
- Candidates belonging to reserved categories (SC/ ST/ OBC/ PwBD/ Ex-Servicemen, as applicable) are entitled to further age relaxation as prescribed in the notification; candidates should refer to the official notification (linked in Important Links) for the complete category-wise relaxation breakdown.
Educational Qualification
- A candidate must have obtained a degree in Engineering from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India, or from an institution declared a deemed University under the UGC Act, 1956; or passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India); or obtained a recognised degree/diploma in Engineering from a foreign University/College/Institution; or passed the Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India); or passed the Associate Membership Examination Parts II and III/Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India; or passed the Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London (held after November 1959).
- Candidates applying for the Indian Naval Armament Service (Electronics Engineering Posts) or Indian Radio Regulatory Service Group ‘A’ may alternatively hold an M.Sc. degree with Wireless Communication Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as a special subject.
Selection Process
The UPSC Engineer Service Examination 2027 selection process consists of three stages:
- Stage-I: Engineering Services (Preliminary) Examination, objective type papers, used to shortlist candidates for the Main Examination.
- Stage-II: Engineering Services (Main) Examination, conventional type papers.
- Stage-III: Personality Test/Interview.
The number of candidates admitted to the Main Examination will be about six to seven times the approximate number of vacancies, while the number called for Personality Test/Interview will be about twice the number of vacancies.

Stage-III: Personality Test/Interview
The Personality Test/Interview carries 200 marks with no minimum qualifying marks. There will be penalty (negative marking) for wrong answers in the objective type papers of the Preliminary Examination; one-third of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for a wrong answer, and there is no penalty for unattempted questions.

- Fill the Common Application Form (CAF) with personal, educational and category-related details.
- Fill the fourth, examination-specific module, choosing the preferred centre and engineering discipline carefully.
- Upload the scanned photograph, live captured photograph and signature as per the specified format and size.
