Eligibility Criteria
Nationality
- Citizen of India or
- Subject of Nepal or Bhutan or
- Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanent settlement or
- Person of Indian origin migrated from specified countries with the intention of permanent settlement in India, subject to certificate of eligibility issued by Government of India.
Age Limit
Candidate applying under UPSC IES ISS Recruitment 2026 must be between 21 and 30 years of age as on 1st August 2026. Relaxations in upper age limit for reserved categories and others as per government rules:
- 5 years for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes
- 3 years for Other Backward Classes
- 3 years for Defence Services Personnel disabled in operations
- 5 years for Ex-servicemen, ECOs/SSCOs
- 10 years for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities
Educational Qualification
- Indian Economic Service: Post-Graduate Degree in Economics/ Applied Economics/ Business Economics/ Econometrics from a recognized university.
- Indian Statistical Service: Bachelor’s Degree with Statistics/ Mathematical Statistics/ Applied Statistics or a Master’s Degree in these subjects from a recognized university.
- Candidates who have appeared for the qualifying examination and are awaiting results are also eligible to apply but must produce the qualifying certificate at the time of interview.
Physical Standards
Candidates must be physically fit as per the prescribed standards for IES/ISS Examination, 2026.

Selection Process
