Assam Boards cancels Class 11 Exam: The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB), Division II, announced the cancellation of the remaining subjects of the Higher Secondary First Year Examination 2025 due to a suspected leak of the Mathematics question paper, the exam of which was scheduled to be held on 21st March. This decision was made in an attempt to uphold the virtue of the examination process and ensuring quality education.

Assam Boards cancels Class 11 Exam: Alleged paper leak

On March 20, 2025, an urgent notification was released stating that the paper was postponed due to unavoidable circumstances. The Board took such a decision due to the increasing reports of the leakage of the HS First Year Mathematics question paper.

The institutions were immediately asked to send back the sealed question paper packets. According to official findings, some institutions had already opened the sealed packets of the Mathematics question paper, when the examination was scheduled to be conducted on 21st March, 2025. This raised further concerns about possible malpractices across the entire state.

On 22nd March, an official notice was released explaining the details of the cancellation of all the remaining exams scheduled from 24th March, 2025, to 29th March, 2025 followed by the news of the paper leak.

Official Statement by the Assam Board

As Assam Boards cancels Class 11 Exam, the Controller of Examinations, Ranjan Kumar Das, issued an official order confirming the cancellation and spoke on the management of the situation from here on. He emphasized that all question papers of remaining subjects are currently in the custody of educational institutions entrusted with the responsibility to collect and store the same. A meeting is scheduled to be held on 24th March to determine the next course of action.

To manage the situation effectively, the specific instructions issued by the Assam Board to various educational authorities are –

  1. Inspectors of Schools have been informed for necessary action and coordination.
  2. Principals of Lead Colleges are instructed to collect all remaining subject question papers from institutions and store them securely in the Lead College of each district.
  3. Heads of Institutions under the Board’s jurisdiction must comply with directives and take necessary precautions.
  4. The Senior Programmer, ASSEB, Division II is responsible for updating the Board’s website with the latest notifications.
  5. Office files will maintain records of the communication and actions taken.

Impact on Students and Further Actions

The cancellation of examinations has caused uncertainty among students preparing for their HS First Year assessments. The Assam Board is expected to announce alternative arrangements soon. Students can wait for the news of possible re-examinations or revised schedules after the official meeting on 24th March, 2025.
