Guwahati: Before all else, Cotton University has become the first state university to enroll itself with the National Testing Agency (NTA) based Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admission to various Undergraduate programs available at the university.
Now the Cotton University of Assam has also become one of the participating Universities of CUET through which students across the country can appear for the CUET exam and seek admission. The merit list for the Cotton University UG admission will now be based on the CUET score. Till the 2022-23 session, admission to UG courses in Cotton University was based on the scores obtained on the last qualifying exam i.e class 12th or equivalent exams.

Candidates aspiring for UG admission to Cotton University have to now apply and appear for the CUET exam and in addition, apply at the Cotton University portal also.
Cotton University admission 2023 criteria
The following common criteria for admission shall be applicable to all UG programs of the University:
- Candidates must appear in CUET in the subject combination mapped to each program they wish to be considered for admission.
- Merit list will be prepared based on the CUET scores of the best 4 (four) subjects mapped to the concerned program of study. The respective combinations mapped to each program can be found in the Annexure.
- Candidates must get a minimum CUET score of 30% in any one language among the following- English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu.
- Passing the 12th or equivalent Board examination is a primary eligibility condition for admission and a candidate must also submit an online application through the admission portal of the Cotton University website. The notification for activation of the link for the online application shall be published at a later date.
New Four-Year UG Program (FYUGP)
Also, all UG Honours programs from 2023-24 onwards will follow the NEP 2020-based Four-Year UG Programme (FYUGP), which is an 8-semester (4-year) program of 160 credits with multiple exit and entry options at the successful completion of courses assigned at the end of each year.
- Students who opt to exit after completion of the first year and have secured 40 credits will be awarded a UG certificate if, in addition, they complete one vocational course of 4 credits during the summer vacation of the first year.
- Students who opt to exit after completion of the second year and have secured 80 credits will be awarded the UG diploma if, in addition, they complete one vocational course of 4 credits during the summer vacation of the second year.
- Students are allowed to re-enter the degree program within three years and complete the degree program within the stipulated maximum period of seven years.
- Students who opt to exit after completion of the third year and have secured 120 credits will be eligible for the UG degree in the Major discipline without Honours.
