IIT Bombay PhD Admission 2025: Registration portal is now open for Autumn Semester

IIT Bombay PhD Admission 2025: Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) has announced the schedule for admission to its various Ph.D. programmes for 2025-26. The application portal for submission of the online forms for Autumn Cycle of admissions is live from 25th March, and interested candidates have time until 11th April, 2025 to apply for the same.

Along with the Admission Brochure, IIT Bombay has released the list of sanctioned strength for Ph.D. Programme (Teaching Assistantship Category) for the Autumn and Spring Semester of academic year 2025-26. As per the list, IIT Bombay is looking to select 491 eligible candidates for their PhD programme that is spread over various Departments, Centres and Schools on the institute.

Benefits

• The teaching assistantship (TA) is payable for a maximum duration of 5 years or up to the thesis submission, whichever is earlier.
• The monthly rate of assistantship is Rs. 37,000/- for the first 2 years and the enhanced rate of Rs. 42,000/- for the remaining period.
• The continuation of assistantship under the TA category will be subject to serving as a teaching assistant in a course/ laboratory for 8 hours per week as assigned by the concerned academic unit as well as satisfactory academic performance.
• Also, IIT Bombay can offer PMRF Fellowship to meritorious Ph.D. candidates at the time of IIT Bombay PhD Admission 2025.
• PMRF fellows get a monthly stipend of Rs 70,000 along with an annual contingency grant of Rs 2 Lakh.

Eligibility Criteria for IIT Bombay PhD Admission 2025

The eligibility conditions for IIT Bombay PhD Admission 2025-26 (Autumn semester) is given below-

• Candidates should have anyone of the following qualifying degree:
  1. Master’s or equivalent degree in engineering or technology
  2. MBA (with BTech or BE or equivalent degree)
  3. Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technology or medicine (4-year degree)
  4. Bachelor degree in science, (4-year degree)
  5. Master’s or equivalent degree in Science
  6. Master’s or equivalent degree in Arts or Commerce
• For 3rd to 6th qualifying degrees from the above list, candidates must fulfill one of the following criteria-
  • Valid scores of GATE/ JEST (for Physics dept. and Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering only)
  • Candidates selected through the National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) for Lectureship (Assistant Professorship)
  • Candidates selected through a national-level exam conducted by the Ministry of Education (MoE) or its agencies/ institutions like UGC, IIT, IISc, or IIT
  • Candidates selected provisionally ,for the DST-INSPIRE Fellowship (a provisional award letter must be shown)
  • Candidates must have at least two years of work experience after earning the qualifying degree, completed before the semester starts
• Also, candidates will need minimum of 60% marks in aggregate, OR a First Class as specified by the University, OR a minimum CGPA/ CPI of 6.0 on the scale of 0-10, OR an equivalent to 6.0 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 0-10 in the qualifying examination.

• Click on ‘New User’ button to register
• After that, log in to the admission portal and fill in all the details as asked on the website
• Next, upload the necessary documents and images
• Candidates applying for programs utilizing scores of any competitive exams must select the relevant examination from the provided options
• They are required to accurately enter their corresponding score and application number to complete the application process
• Next, the candidates need to pay the application fee using any one of the available options
• Lastly, they need to submit the application form for the IIT Bombay PhD Admission 2025 and download it along with the payment receipt for future reference
