The Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBPF), functioning under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has announced ITBP Constable Vacancies 2026 for two Head Constable posts. These are Head Constable (Motor Mechanic) with 21 vacancies and Head Constable (Education & Stress Counsellor) with 16 vacancies.

The posts are General Central Service, Group ‘C’ Non-Gazetted (Non-Ministerial) and are temporary but likely to become permanent. Applications for ITBP Constable Vacancies 2026 will be accepted through online mode only, from 28th September 2026 to 27th October 2026.

A total of 37 posts are available under ITBP Constable Vacancies 2026. The post-wise distribution is given below.

Pay Scale and Benefits

Selected candidates for both posts will be paid as per the following scale.

The posts also carry Dearness Allowance, Ration Money Allowance, Special Compensatory Allowance (while posted in specified border areas), free accommodation or HRA, Transport Allowance, Leave Travel Concession and free medical facilities. On appointment, candidates may opt for either the National Pension System (NPS) or the United Pension Scheme (UPS).

Eligibility Criteria for ITBP Constable Vacancies 2026

Age Limit

The age limit differs for the two posts and will be calculated as of 27th October 2026, the closing date for applications.

  • Head Constable (Motor Mechanic): 18 to 25 years. Candidates should be born between 28th October 2001 and 27th October 2008.
  • Head Constable (Education & Stress Counsellor): 20 to 25 years. Candidates should be born between 28th October 2001 and 27th October 2006.

The date of birth recorded in the Matriculation certificate will be accepted, and no request for change will be entertained. Candidates from reserved categories and Ex-Servicemen are entitled to age relaxation as per rules, and the official notification gives the complete category-wise details.

Educational Qualification

  • Head Constable (Motor Mechanic): 10+2 pass from a recognised Board or Institution. Candidates must also hold a Motor Mechanic certificate from a recognised Institution or Industrial Training Institute with three years of practical experience in the trade in a reputed workshop, or a three-year Diploma in Automobile Engineering.
  • Head Constable (Education & Stress Counsellor): A degree from a recognised University or equivalent with Psychology as a subject, or a degree from a recognised University with Bachelor of Education or Bachelor of Teaching or equivalent.

Nationality and Gender

  • Applicants must be Indian citizens, including subjects of Nepal or Bhutan.
  • The Motor Mechanic post advertised under ITBP Constable Vacancies 2026 is open to male candidates only.
  • The Education & Stress Counsellor post is open to both male and female candidates.

Weight should be proportionate to height and age as per medical standards. Candidates seeking relaxation in height or chest must submit the prescribed certificate when sought by the Recruitment Board.

Medical Standards

Distant vision must be 6/6 and 6/9 in the better and worse eye respectively, without glasses or lenses. Near vision should be N6 and N9, and binocular vision is required. Colour blind candidates are not eligible, and candidates must not have knock-knees, flat feet, varicose veins or squint. Persons with physical deformities or disabilities cannot apply.

Selection Process

The selection process for ITBP Constable Vacancies 2026 differs slightly for each post. Candidates who fail to qualify at any stage will be eliminated at that stage.

Head Constable (Motor Mechanic)

  • Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST)
  • Verification of original documents
  • Written Examination of 100 marks
  • Practical (Skill) Test of 50 marks
  • Merit list, followed by Detailed Medical Examination (DME) and Review Medical Examination (RME)

PET will not be held for Ex-Servicemen, but they must qualify the remaining stages. Candidates who qualify the written examination, to the tune of ten times the category-wise vacancies, will be called for the Practical (Skill) Test.

Head Constable (Education & Stress Counsellor)

  • Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST)
  • Written Examination of 100 marks
  • Merit list and verification of original documents
  • Detailed Medical Examination (DME) and Review Medical Examination (RME)

PET will not be held for Ex-Servicemen here either, but they must qualify the PST, written examination and medical examination.

Physical Efficiency Test

PET is qualifying in nature; no marks are awarded, and candidates must qualify each event. There is no provision for appeal in PET.

Exam Pattern

Head Constable (Motor Mechanic)

The written examination is of objective multiple-choice type for 100 marks, with a duration of 2 hours. The questions will be of 12th standard, and the mode may be Computer Based Test (CBT) or OMR at the discretion of ITBPF.

The written examination consists of 100 objective-type questions for 100 marks, to be completed in 2 hours. The mode may be OMR or CBT, and there is no negative marking.

The minimum qualifying marks are 35 per cent for UR/ EWS/ Ex-Servicemen and 33 per cent for SC/ ST/ OBC (NCL) candidates.

Documents Required

Original documents will be verified, and self-attested copies will be retained. Candidates should keep the following ready.

  • Educational certificates, along with diploma and experience certificates for the Motor Mechanic post
  • Matriculation or Class 10th pass certificate for date of birth
  • SC/ ST certificate, OBC certificate and EWS certificate (valid for 2025-26) in the prescribed format, issued by an authority not lower than Tehsildar or SDM
  • OBC (NCL) declaration in the prescribed format, with the Non-Creamy Layer certificate based on income for the financial years 2025-26, 2024-25 and 2023-24
  • No Objection Certificate in original from the employer, for those serving in Government services
  • Certificate for relaxation in height or chest, if applicable
  • Domicile certificate, PAN Card, Aadhaar Card, Driving Licence or Voter Card for verification of citizenship
  • Discharge certificate, in case of Ex-Servicemen
  • Four latest passport-size photographs
  • Printout of the online application form and admit card, for entry to PET and PST

Certificates obtained in any format other than the prescribed one will not be accepted.
