Meghalaya Govt and NLSIU to offer research fellowship for law students

Meghalaya government ties up with NLSIU to provide 1-year research fellowships for law students.

The Meghalaya Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 4th April 2022 with Bangalore-based National Law School of India University to start a fellowship programme for Legacy and Policy Research. This is a one-year fellowship programme that will allow the graduates of NLSIU to work in Meghalaya and have experience with the current scenario of law and policy. The Meghalaya Government officials will also be facilitated by the university on capacity-building programs and training.

P.A. Sangma Fellowship for students of NLSIU

The initiative to be known as P.A. Sangma Fellowship for Legal and Policy Research is named after Shri. Purno A. Sangma, the former Chief Minister of Meghalaya and a speaker of Lok Sabha. The fellowship will provide monthly stipends and a Fellowship Certificate on successful completion at the end. The graduates from the B.A.LL.B (Hons.), LLM, and Masters in Public Policy programmes of NLSIU are eligible for the fellowship.

The Offices of Law and other departments of the Meghalaya Government will be benefited from capacity-building programmes and training such as regulatory drafting, awarding of contracts, etc. with the help of the fellowship awardees and the law university.

The MoU was signed by the Government of Meghalaya, Shri. Cyril V Diengdoh, Dr. Sudhir Krishnaswamy (NLSIU Vice-Chancellor), and Secretary of Law Department from the university campus. Shri. James P K Sangma, Government of Meghalaya, Minister of Home and Law, Course Director, Institute of Public Policy, Dr. Sony Pellissery, NLSIU Registrar Dr. Nigam Nuggehalli, NLSIU faculty members Prof Srijoni Sen and Prof Babu Mathew, and Consultant, Meghalaya Government, Anirban Paul (NLS 2021) were also present at the event.
