What is SWAYAM?
SWAYAM is a platform that is used to facilitate the hosting of all courses which are usually taught in the classroom from Class 9 till post-graduation. It can be accessed anywhere, anytime, and is free of cost. The courses are interactive and have been prepared by the best teachers across the country. Specially chosen faculties and teachers from across the country have come together in the preparation for these courses. To ensure this, nine National Coordinators have been appointed which are:
- AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) for self-paced and international courses
- NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) for Engineering
- UGC (University Grants Commission) for non-technical post-graduation education
- CEC (Consortium for Educational Communication) for under-graduate education
- NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) for school education
- NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) for school education
- IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) for out-of-school students
- IIMB (Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore) for management studies
- NITTTR (National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research) for the Teacher Training programme
Though the courses delivered are free of cost, learners wanting a SWAYAM certificate should register for the final proctored exams which require a fee. Candidates have to attend in person at the required centres on specified dates. Just applying for this examination doesn’t guarantee that the certificate will be given to a candidate. The eligibility for the certificate will be announced on the course page. Only upon meeting the eligibility, a candidate gets the certificate after passing the exam.
