UPSC IES ISS: The official notice for the Indian Economic Service (IES) / Indian Statistical Service (ISS) Examination 2025, also known as the UPSC IES ISS Exam 2025, has been released. A total of 47 vacancies are available for the Indian Economic Service and Indian Statistical Service. Eligibility Criteria
The candidates applying for UPSC IES ISS Exam 2025 must fulfil the following eligibility criteria –
Nationality
- India citizen
- A subject of Nepal, Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, to settle permanently
- A Person of Indian Origin (PIO) who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam with the intention of permanent settlement in India
Age Limit
- As of 1st August, 2025, the minimum and maximum age to apply for the UPSC IES ISS Examination 2025 is 21 years and 30 years (Born between 2nd August, 1995, and 1st August, 2004) respectively.
- Age relaxation –
- SC/ST – 5 years (Up to 35 years)
- OBC – 3 years (Up to 33 years)
- Defense Personnel disabled in operations – 3 years
- Ex-Servicemen & ECOs/ SSCOs – 5 years
- Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) – 10 years
Educational Qualification
Indian Economic Service | Postgraduate degree in Economics, Applied Economics, Business Economics, or Econometrics from a recognized university |
Indian Statistical Service | Bachelor’s degree with Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics as one of the subjects or a Master’s degree in these subjects |
Physical Standards
Candidates must meet physical fitness standards as per Appendix-III of the exam rules.
Selection Procedure
The selection procedure of UPSC IES ISS Exam 2025 is divided into 2 parts. first of all, candidates must appear for a written exam consisting of six papers, having 1000 marks in total. Then there will be Viva voce or interview of 100 marks to assess the personality of the candidate.
Exam Pattern
- Written Exam will be conducted for a total of 1000 Marks.
- OMR sheets will be provided wherein only blue or black ballpoint pen must be used.
- Objective Papers (Statistics-I & II) will contain 80 questions, each carrying 200 marks.
- Descriptive Papers (Statistics-III & IV) will contain both short-answer and long-answer questions.
- All question papers will be in English only.
- Negative Marking is applicable only in Objective Papers (Statistics-I & II).

What after Selection?
- Merit List: The final ranking list of UPSC IES ISS Exam 2025 will be prepared based on scores of Written Exam (1000) + Interview Marks (200) = 1200 Marks. Candidates with higher marks get a better rank and have a better chance of getting their preferred service.
- Document Verification: Candidates must produce original documents during document verification as asked by UPSC.
- Appointment and Training: Once the document verification is successful, candidates will be appointed to either the Indian Economic Service (IES) or Indian Statistical Service (ISS) based on the rank in final merit list, number of vacancies, and reservations and then they will undergo training in government institutions before being posted.
Exam Centre
- The exams of UPSC IES ISS will be conducted at 19 centers across India and there will be limited seats per center.
- Candidates will be allotted Exam Centres on a first-apply-first-basis.
- The centres are: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cuttack, Delhi, Dispur, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna, Prayagraj (Allahabad), Shillong, Shimla, and Thiruvananthapuram.
Documents Required
- Recent passport-size photo (not older than 10 days)
- Scanned signature
- Photo ID proof (Aadhaar, PAN, Passport, Voter ID, etc.)
- Proof of Date of Birth (Matriculation/10th Certificate)
- Educational Qualification Certificates (Postgraduate for IES, Bachelor’s/Master’s for ISS)
- Category Certificate (if applicable)
- Disability Certificate (if applicable)
- Government Employees must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC)
How to apply for UPSC IES ISS Exam 2025?
- At first, candidates need to register themself on the One Time Registration (OTR) platform of UPSC (If done earlier or if the candidate is already registered, he/she can proceed straightway to fill up the online application for the exam)
- After successful registration, candidates need to log in to the application portal
- Go to Dashboard and click on “Apply to Active Notification”
- Click on the link corresponding to UPSC IES ISS Exam 2025
- Fill out the required details as asked in the portal
- Upload the photograph, signature, and other required documents in the specified format
- Then pay the application fees and select the preferred city for the exam centre
- Lastly, review and submit the application form and don’t forget to download a copy of the application form for future reference
