The Gauhati University invites eligible candidates to apply online for admission to various postgraduate programs for the academic session 2026-27 through Gauhati University Post Graduate Entrance Test, or GUPGET 2026. This entrance test will act as the single mode of admission to both traditional and interdisciplinary postgraduate courses offered by Gauhati University and its affiliated colleges.

Along with the above-mentioned courses in Gauhati University Campus, there are seats available in many affiliated colleges/ institutes for various postgraduate courses. These colleges will use the scores of GUPGET 2026 for admissions, however students need to apply explicitly in the admission portal of those colleges.
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates must be FYUGP/ Graduates with the minimum specified credit requirement (usually 24 credits) in the related major or honours subject.
- For certain programs, additional qualifications such as one-year postgraduate diplomas or specified CGPA/percentage are required.
- The notification does not specify a particular age limit for admission.
Selection Process
- All candidates must appear and qualify in the GUPGET 2026 entrance test to be considered for admission.
- Selection is based solely on merit as per the scores obtained in the entrance test.
- Seat reservations are followed as per Government of Assam and Gauhati University guidelines.
- Admission is provisional until original documents are verified at the time of admission.
- Candidates must meet minimum eligibility during document verification to avoid cancellation of admission.
Exam Pattern
- The GUPGET 2026 is an offline exam consisting of 100 multiple-choice questions, each carrying 1 mark.
- The duration of the test is 2 hours.
- Negative marking: 0.25 marks deducted for every incorrect answer.
- Candidates can apply for up to 3 subjects: one from Traditional Programmes and two from Interdisciplinary Programmes.
- The list of subject codes and programs are provided on official notification for reference.
Documents Required
- Final Grade Sheet/ Mark Sheet of the qualifying examination.
- Relevant reservation category certificates (SC/ ST/ OBC/ MOBC/ EWS/ etc.) if applicable.
- Medical Certificate issued by the Joint Director of Health Services for differently-abled candidates.
- Certificate for quota categories like Fringe Village, NCC, NSS, Son/ Daughter of GU Employees, Ex-Defense Personnel, and Extra-Curricular activities.

- Click on the button given for new registrations
- Enter your basic details like Phone number, Date of birth, and get yourself registered on the portal
- Once done, log in and enter the details as asked in the admission portal – which will include your personal information, address info, academic details, etc.
- Next, upload the required documents, your image, and your signature
- Then choose the courses, you wish to apply for and proceed
- Lastly, pay the application fees and submit your form for GUPGET 2026
- Please download a copy of your application form and the payment receipt for future references
