Sainik School Admissions 2024: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released a new notification and announced the opening of an application portal for the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination (AISSEE) 2024. The entrance exam for Sainik School Admissions 2024 will be conducted for admission into Class VI and Class IX in 33 Sainik Schools across the country, for the academic session 2024-25.
The Sainik Schools Society (SSS) operates independently within the Ministry of Defence, Govt of India. It oversees a network of residential schools known as Sainik Schools, which follow an English medium curriculum and are affiliated with CBSE. Currently, there are a total of 33 Sainik Schools located throughout the country. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has given the green light for 19 new Sainik Schools, collaborating with NGOs, private schools, and state governments. These approved institutions, operating under the Sainik Schools Society, will admit students to the Class VI Sainik School stream for the academic year 2024-25 through AISSEE 2024.

Eligibility Criteria for Sainik School Admissions 2024
For admission to Class VI:
- Candidate should be between 10 and 12 years old as of 31 March 2024 for admission to Class VI, i.e. he/ she should have been born between 01 April 2012 and 31 March 2014 (both days inclusive) for admission to the academic year 2024-25.
- Admission for Girls is open for Class VI and Age criteria are the same as for boys.
For admission to Class IX:
- A candidate should be between 13 and 15 years old as of 31 March 2024, for admission to Class IX, i.e. he should have been born between 01 April 2009 and 31 March 2011 (both days inclusive) for admission to the academic year 2024-25.
- Admission to Class IX is not open for girls.
- He/ she should have passed the Class VIII exam from a recognized school at the time of admission.

- Caste/ Community/ Category Certificate (if applicable)
- Certificate of service (for Defence category-serving) and PPO for Ex-servicemen, if applicable.
- Certificate from the Principal certifying that the applicant is studying in the approved New Sainik School (Applicable only for those who are studying currently in approved New Sainik Schools)
- Domicile Certificate
How to apply?
- First of all, visit the application portal of Sainik School Admissions 2024 by clicking on the link given below
- Now click on the ‘New Registration’ button and read the instructions given, then proceed to the registration form
- Enter personal details and get registered
- Next, fill in the Online Application Form and note down the system-generated Application Number, as it will be required in future
- Then, upload the relevant documents as listed above and then pay the application fees
- Lastly, download the payment receipt and the application form of Sainik School Admissions 2024 for future reference
Application Fees
During the registration process for Sainik School Admissions 2024, candidates belonging to the General category/ Wards of Defence personnel and Ex-servicemen/ OBC(NCL) as per the central list will be asked to pay Rs. 650 as an application fee. However, the application fees will be Rs. 500 only for candidates belonging to SC and ST categories.
Selection/ Admission Procedure
The Sainik School Admissions 2024 will be based on the AISSEE which will conducted next year. There are additional norms for admission in New Sainik Schools (NSS). The details are given below:
For Admission to Existing Sainik Schools
For Sainik School Admissions 2024, a candidate needs at least 25% marks in each exam subject and a total of 40% marks in AISSEE 2024. The actual admission, though, depends on e-counselling, merit ranking in AISSEE 2024, passing a medical check, and verifying the necessary documents.
However, no minimum marks are prescribed for candidates belonging to the SC or ST category. They will be admitted based on inter-se merit at the Entrance Examination within their respective categories, subject to their meeting the eligibility requirements.
For Admission to New Sainik Schools (NSS)
To get into the New Sainik Schools, a candidate needs at least 25% marks in each exam subject and a total of 40% marks overall in AISSEE 2024. This criterion applies to all candidates who wish to seek admission to approved New Sainik Schools including SC/ ST candidates. Criteria of domicile/ category are not applicable for admission to approved New Sainik Schools.
Admission into New Sainik Schools (NSS) will be conducted through 2 channels, as given below:
- 40% Route: A minimum of 40% of the seats under the Sainik School stream in approved NSSs will be filled based on the rank secured in the All India Merit List of AISSEE 2024.
- 60% Route: From the total seats, 60% of the seats under Sainik School Admissions 2024 in NSSs will be filled by those who are already studying in any of the approved NSSs. They will be filled based on rank secured in the School-wise Merit List.
Exam Pattern
For Class VI admissions:
- The AISSEE for the Sainik School Admissions 2024 will be carried out using a traditional pen and paper format. Applicants will be required to select the accurate answers from the provided options and indicate them on the OMR sheet.
- The entrance exam will have 125 questions, and there will be 300 marks in total.
- The duration of the examination will be 150 minutes (02:00 PM to 04:30 PM).
- There is no negative mark for a wrong response.
- Medium of examination: English, Marathi, Hindi, Odiya, Assamese, Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, Gujarati, Telugu, Kannada, Urdu, and Malayalam

For Class IX admissions:
- The AISSEE for the Sainik School Admissions 2024 will be carried out using a traditional pen and paper format. Applicants will be required to select the accurate answers from the provided options and indicate them on the OMR sheet.
- The entrance exam will have 150 questions, and there will be 400 marks in total.
- The duration of the examination will be 180 minutes (02:00 PM to 05:00 PM).
- There is no negative mark for a wrong response.
- Medium of examination: English only
