The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released a new notification and announced the opening of an application portal for the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination (AISSEE) 2023. The entrance exam for Sainik School Admissions will be conducted for admission into Class VI and Class IX in 33 Sainik Schools across the country, for the academic session 2023-24.
Also, the same results will be used for admitting students in Class VI of 18 newly approved Sainik Schools, which operate in partnership with NGOs/ Private Schools/ State Governments. Who can apply?
For admission to Class VI:
- Candidate should be between 10 and 12 years as on 31 March 2023 for admission to Class VI, i.e. he/she should have been born between 01 April 2011 and 31 March 2013 (both days inclusive) for admission to the academic year 2023-24.
- Admission for Girls is open for Class VI and Age criteria are the same as for boys.
For admission to Class IX:
- A candidate should be between 13 and 15 years as on 31 March 2023, for admission to Class IX, i.e. he should have been born between 01 April 2008 and 31 March 2010 (both days inclusive) for admission to the academic year 2023-24.
- Admission to Class IX is not open for girls.
- He/ she should have passed the Class VIII exam from a recognized school at the time of admission.

- Candidate’s Signature
- Candidate’s left-hand thumb impression
- Date of Birth Certificate
- Domicile Certificate
- Caste/ Community/ Category Certificate (if applicable)
- Certificate of service (for Defence category-serving) and PPO for Ex-servicemen, if applicable.
- Certificate from the Principal certifying that the applicant is studying in the approved New Sainik School. (Applicable only for those who are studying currently in approved New Sainik Schools)
How to apply for Sainik School Admissions?
- First of all, visit the official website of AISSEE 2023
- Click on the highlighted link saying ‘AISSEE 2023 Application Form’
- Now click on the ‘New Registration’ button and read the instructions given, then proceed to the registration form
- Enter your personal details and then submit the form
- Next, fill in the Online Application Form and note down the system-generated Application Number, as it will be required in future
- Then, upload the relevant documents as listed above and then pay the application fees
- Lastly, download the payment receipt and the application form for Sainik School Admissions 2023
Application Fees
During the registration process for Sainik School Admissions 2023, candidates belonging to the General category/ Wards of Defence personnel and Ex-servicemen/ OBC(NCL) as per the central list will be asked to pay Rs. 650 as an application fee. However, the application fees will be Rs. 500 only for candidates belonging to SC and ST categories.
Exam Pattern
For Class VI admissions:
- AISSEE 2023 will be conducted in Pen & Paper mode, where candidates need to choose the correct answer from the given options and mark it in the OMR sheet.
- The entrance exam will have 125 questions, and there will be 300 marks in total.
- The duration of the examination will be 150 minutes (02:00 PM to 04:30 PM).
- There is no negative mark for a wrong response.
- Medium of examination: English, Marathi, Hindi, Odiya, Assamese, Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, Gujarati, Telugu, Kannada, Urdu, and Malayalam

For Class IX admissions:
- AISSEE 2023 for Sainik School Admissions will be conducted in Pen & Paper mode, where candidates need to choose the correct answer from the given options and mark it in the OMR sheet.
- The entrance exam will have 150 questions, and there will be 400 marks in total.
- The duration of the examination will be 180 minutes (02:00 PM to 05:00 PM).
- There is no negative mark for a wrong response.
- Medium of examination: English only
