UPSC CSE 2023: Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) released the notification regarding the application form for the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination today. The application form fillup procedures are now open and will end on the 21st of February, 2022. It is a nationwide examination to recruit officers for various Administrative Services.
This year, the preliminary examination of UPSC CSE 2023 will be conducted on the 28th of May 2023 for Grade A and Grade B posts. The recruitment drive will contain approximately 1105 posts in various administrative departments. These departments are:

- Indian Audit and Accounts Service, Group ‘A’
- Indian Civil Accounts Service, Group ‘A’
- Indian Corporate Law Service, Group ‘A’

- Indian Information Service, Group ‘A’
- Indian Postal Service, Group ‘A’
- Indian P&T Accounts and Finance Service, Group ‘A’

- Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Indirect Taxes) Group ‘A’
- Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax) Group ‘A’
- Indian Trade Service, Group ‘A’ (Grade III)
- Indian Railway Management Service, Group ‘A’
- Armed Forces Headquarters Civil Service, Group ‘B’ (Section Officer’s Grade)
- Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli Civil Service (DANICS), Group ‘B’

The candidates can apply for the posts through the One Time Registration (OTR) process which was introduced early this year to facilitate the registration process for UPSC examinations.

Eligibility Criteria
- The candidates’ age should be between 21 years to 32 years, as of the 1st of August, 2023. However, there are a few relaxations for various reserved categories.
- The candidates must hold a graduate degree from any of the recognised institutes.
- The candidates from unreserved categories are permitted to appear in UPSC CSE 2023 for upto 6 attempts, whereas OBC and PwBD candidates have 9 attempts, and there are unlimited attempts for SC and ST candidates.
How to apply for UPSC CSE 2023?
To apply for the examinations, follow the given steps:
- Candidates are required to apply Online using the link www.upsconline.nic.in. In case, the applicant has not yet registered in the One Time Registration (OTR) platform, the link of which is already available on the Commission’s website, he/she should register on this platform and thereafter proceed for filling up the online application for the UPSC CSE 2023 examination.
- To complete the OTR registrations, follow the given steps:
- Click the new registrations option on the portal.
- Fill in all the necessary credentials.
- Insert the security question and click the submit option.
- Verify through the Email and create a password.
- The OTR process will be completed.
- The candidates can log in through email and password.
- Once done, the candidates must go to the Latest Notification tab on the official website and click on the link for UPSC CSE 2023 examination, and then can apply for the same.
- Once the form is filled up, candidates are required to pay the fee of Rs. 100/- and can submit the form. However, the application fee is exempted from Females and candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ Persons with Benchmark Disability.
Exam Pattern of UPSC CSE 2023
(A) Preliminary Examination:
- The Examination shall comprise two compulsory Papers of 200 marks each.
- Both the question papers will be of the objective type (multiple choice questions) and each will be two hours in duration.
- The General Studies Paper-II of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.
(B) Main Examination
Qualifying Papers (300 marks each)
- Paper-A: One of the Indian Language to be selected by the candidate from the Languages included in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution
- Paper-B: English
Papers to be counted for merit (250 marks each)
- Paper-I: Essay
- Paper-II: General Studies-I (Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society)
- Paper-III: General Studies-II (Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations)
- Paper-IV: General Studies-III (Technology, Economic Development, Bio-diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management)
- Paper-V: General Studies -IV (Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude)
- Paper-VI: Optional Subject – Paper 1
- Paper-VII: Optional Subject – Paper 2
- Personality Test – 275 Marks
