Gauhati University has released the admission brochure for the four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) B.A.-B.Ed. (Secondary Stage) for the 2026-27 session. The Gauhati University ITEP Admission 2026-27 offers a dual-major undergraduate degree, one major in Education and the other in a chosen discipline, designed as per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the mandate of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).

The programme prepares candidates to teach Grades 9 to 12 and is being run under the Department of Education, Gauhati University. Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

• Candidates must have passed Class XII in any stream or discipline, securing at least 50% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade.
• Candidates must have appeared for the test in any one of English, Hindi, Assamese, History, Political Science, Geography, or Economics as the domain subject in the NCET.
• A candidate should have appeared in the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in 2024, 2025, or 2026.
• Students who have passed Class XII with any of the eligible subjects can apply for the corresponding disciplinary major.

Entrance Test Requirement

• Candidates must have appeared in the NCET exam with a relevant domain subject (minimum one), along with Languages I and II, Teaching Aptitude, and the General Test.
• This is referred to as the 4+1 method, since admission is based on the total NCET score across these four compulsory sections plus one domain subject.

Selection Process

• Selection for the Gauhati University ITEP Admission 2026 is strictly merit-based, determined by the total NCET score under the 4+1 method.
• Allotment of the disciplinary major is based on the candidate’s NCET score in the Domain Subject along with the compulsory sections (Languages I and II, Teaching Aptitude, General Test).

• Candidates who select Gauhati University as their first preference are given priority during preparation of the merit list and seat allotment.
• Those who select Gauhati University as a second or lower preference are considered only after all eligible first-preference candidates have been accommodated, subject to seat availability, and no claim for admission is entertained from candidates who did not select Gauhati University as first preference.
• Admission counselling is conducted by the Department of Education, Gauhati University.
• Candidates must also indicate their major preferences in order of priority and select one minor subject other than their chosen major.
• Candidates who decline the admission offer, or fail to take admission within the prescribed time, are not considered in any subsequent merit list.
