The Government of Assam has announced that all the primary schools of Assam will remain closed till the 30th of January, 2022. The Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Curfew will be imposed from 10 pm to 6 am every day. Business, the commercial establishment will not function post 9 pm.” He also further emphasized maintaining precautionary measures at the individual level.

Measures for Schools of Assam

The Chief Minister further said that from tomorrow, January 8, all government and private schools of Assam up to Class 5 will be closed across the state till January 30. In Guwahati, schools will be closed for students up to Class 8. Physical classes of Classes 9 to 11 will be run on rotation mode (three days a week) while Class 12, engineering colleges, medical colleges, and technical institutes will run as usual.

CM said,” Those who are not fully vaccinated will no longer be allowed to enter in all government offices, shopping malls, hotels, restaurants, cinema halls, public places except hospitals from January 15. Hotel, restaurant, shopping mall, cinema hall will be fined Rs 25,000 for allowing entry of those who are not fully vaccinated. Restaurants are to be allowed to operate at 100 percent seating capacity with fully vaccinated persons,”

The CM said that the Government of Assam is fully navigating the covid cases. CM further stated, “No standing passenger will be allowed. All public transport authorities will enforce Covid-19 appropriate behavior. All inter-district passenger transport and movement will be allowed only with fully vaccinated passengers. Industrial units and tea gardens may function subject to observance of Covid-19 appropriate behavior.”

Overviewing the present Covid scenario in the state, it would be interesting to see how Govt. takes further steps after the 30th of January. It is likely that Assam’s government would need to increase the tenure of Bandh, so that the young children of Schools of Assam may remain safe in their homes. Also, there will be a chance for the Education system to be shifted to online mode again; if the number of cases remains rising as it is now.
