Assam University PhD admission 2026-27: Assam University, Silchar (AUS) is a central university established by an Act of Parliament, offering the Doctor of Philosophy programme through its Silchar headquarters and Diphu Campus. Candidates seeking Assam University PhD admission 2026-27 can apply for a maximum of two allied departments, with separate applications and fees required for each. Assam University PhD admission 2026-27 covers 36 departments at Silchar headquarters and 7 departments at Diphu Campus, based on the seat matrix released in Annexure-A of the notice. The table below gives the proposed intake capacity for each department.

Note: The Assam University PhD admission 2026 notice states that reservation of seats for SC/ ST/ OBC (non-creamy layer)/ PwBD/ EWS candidates will be made as per Government of India rules. Candidates are advised to check the department-wise category breakup and area(s) of specialisation for each recognised supervisor in Annexure-A of the official notification before applying.

Eligibility Criteria

Assam University PhD admission 2026-27 eligibility is based on the AUS Ordinance on Ph.D. Programme 2023. Candidates are eligible if they fall in either of the following categories:

• A master’s degree of 1-year/ 2-semester duration after a 4-year/ 8-semester bachelor’s degree, or of 2-year/ 4-semester duration after a 3-year bachelor’s degree, in the same or allied subjects, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade wherever a grading system is followed.
• An equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an approved and recognised assessment and accreditation agency.
• Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme in the same or allied subject as per UGC regulations (2016 and subsequent amendments), with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade.
• Candidates possessing a degree equivalent to M.Phil. from a foreign educational institution accredited by a recognised authority in its home country.

A relaxation of 5% marks or equivalent grade is allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC (non-creamy layer)/ Differently-abled/ Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories, as per UGC decisions from time to time.

Selection Process

• Selection for Assam University PhD admission 2026-27 will be based on NET/ SLET score, as well as RET (Research Entrance Test), which involves a university-level written test and personal interview.
• A personal interview is mandatory for all candidates who qualify based on their NET/ SLET/ RET score.
