SSC CHSL Syllabus & Exam Pattern: The Staff Selection Commission conducts a Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) Exam every year at the national level government to select Higher Secondary qualified students for various departments and offices of the Indian government. Selection Process
The selection process for the SSC CHSL 2025 consists of two main stages:
(i) Tier I: Computer-Based Test (CBT): Objective Multiple-Choice Questions, Online Mode, Qualifying in nature.
(ii) Tier II: Computer-Based Test (CBT) + Skill Test: Objective Questions + Skill & Typing Test, Three sections with two modules each, Online Mode, Merit-based.

SSC CHSL Tier I
The SSC CHSL Tier I Exam Pattern is given below-
- The exam will be conducted in Computer-Based mode.
- The total marks will be 200.
- The total number of questions will be 100 questions.
- There is a 1/2 mark for each wrong question.
- The total duration is 60 minutes and 80 minutes for PWD candidates.

General Intelligence & Logical Reasoning
This section evaluates a candidate’s ability to think logically and solve a wide range of problems. It covers both verbal and non-verbal reasoning. Key topics include Logical Reasoning, where you will encounter questions on Alphanumeric Series, Ranking/ Direction/ Alphabet Test, Data Sufficiency, Coded Inequalities, Seating Arrangement, Puzzles, Tabulation, and Syllogism. You will also be tested on analytical skills with questions based on Blood Relations, Input-Output, and Coding-Decoding. The goal is to assess your critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills through a variety of question formats.
Quantitative Aptitude
This module focuses on your mathematical and analytical abilities. It is a comprehensive section that includes topics from both basic and advanced mathematics. You will be tested on your proficiency in Simplification, Profit and Loss, Mixtures & Allegations, Simple Interest & Compound Interest & Surds & Indices, Work & Time, and Time & Distance. Mensuration is a key component, with specific topics like Cylinder, Cone, and Sphere. The section also includes questions on Data Interpretation, Ratio and Proportion, Percentage, Number Systems, Sequence & Series, and Permutation, Combination & Probability to assess your numerical skills.
General Awareness
This section is designed to test your knowledge of current events and a wide range of subjects. It requires a broad understanding of the world around you. The syllabus covers Static GK topics like History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Policy, and Scientific Research. Additionally, a significant part of this section is dedicated to Current Affairs, including Awards and Honors, Books and Authors, and Sports GK, ensuring you are well-versed in recent happenings. Indian Polity is also a crucial subject, testing your knowledge of the Indian Constitution and governance.
English Language
This section assesses your command of the English language, including your vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension skills. It tests your ability to understand, analyze, and use the language effectively. Key topics include Reading Comprehension, Cloze Test, Para Jumbles, and Paragraph Completion to check your understanding of text structure and context. You will also be evaluated on your grammar and vocabulary through questions on Fill in the Blanks, Multiple Meaning/ Error Spotting, One Word Substitution, and Active and Passive Voice, covering various aspects of grammar and word usage.
SSC CHSL Tier II
SSC CHSL Tier-II Examination Scheme:
- Two Sessions in One Day: Tier-II is conducted in two sessions – Session I (objective tests) and Session II (skill/ typing tests).
- Session-I Structure: It includes three sections –
- Section-I: Mathematical Abilities & Reasoning (60 questions, 180 marks, 1 hour)
- Section-II: English & General Awareness (60 questions, 180 marks, 1 hour)
- Section-III: Computer Knowledge Test (15 questions, 45 marks, 15 minutes)
- Section-wise Timing: Each section has a fixed and auto-closing time. Extra time is given to scribe-eligible candidates.
- Session-II: Skill/ Typing Test: This session includes a qualifying Skill Test for DEOs and a Typing Test for LDC/ JSA posts, with specific key depression or typing speed requirements.
- Negative Marking: 1 mark is deducted for each wrong answer in Sections I, II, and III.
- Qualifying Nature: Both Computer Test (Section-III) and Skill/ Typing Tests (Section-IV) are of qualifying nature, but mandatory to appear in.
